Whiser the Warbler
Whiser the Warbler spent his days basking in the sun's radiance and whistling all the world's tunes. Some of the other gods wondered why he alone had no task to do. When the dark times came he became better appreciated. He summoned the swift flyers to chase off the tramplers of the grass nests, he summoned the stooping hunters to guard against the sneaking egg thieves, and he called the great call that reached the ends of the earth, so that the entire flock mourned when they needed to, and so it was only half a disaster and the world continued. Perhaps appreciated more, afterwards he sang the songs of the world that had been, the songs of beauty and happiness and duty, and these songs kept the people from fully forgetting that they were a flock. Eventually he sang his own death song, so that he could sing to the flock in the underworld and remind them of who they were, then he too grasped the great world-nest and helped re-create the world.
Sometimes the Rinliddi still resent his followers seeming idleness, but above most people they value the importance of beauty and grace and ceremony, realizing that these too are important parts of the world.
Whiser's followers, often just called `Whistlers' have their place in Rinliddi society. Not always a well off or well respected place, but they are recognized as an essential part of the great flock. They take pride in their appearance, although they are often more distinctive than conventionally attractive. They are frequently called on to take part in rituals, and have a reputation for knowing unusual rituals.
