Rock Sisters Society

The Rock Sisters Society is a Darseni women's society, notable for the large number of Lunar Way followers amongst its members. Its purpose is obscure to non-members and its significance to non-Darseni is non-existent. The twins' mother was the society's leader (Grandmother) until her recent demise; her Teaching Stick should have passed to her eldest daughter (Karima,by a matter of minutes), but she deferred to Samra with the society's approval.

The Rock Sisters Society is a Darseni women's society, its name deriving from the small stones that its members use to make their Common Magic charms and talismans. To outsiders and junior members, the purpose of the society is rather obscure; it seems little more than a women-only club that teaches minor magics and gives its members an excuse to come together and gossip.

Secretly, however, the Society, and others like it, is one of the public faces of an ancient organization known only as The Sisterhood. Individually, the component groups of this secretive organization have differing histories and include worshippers of a wide variety of goddesses. As part of The Sisterhood, however, they are part of a venerable tradition that reveres all of the Hundred Goddesses. Its most dedicated adherents are sworn to defend the worship and worshippers of these deities from patriarchal repression, especially by the Dara Happans.

The origins of this organization are shrouded in mystery, but it is closely linked with the Deneron Council, which has met every 47 years and is next scheduled to meet in 1357. Not all of the component societies' members are aware of The Sisterhood's existence; only the most trusted are granted knowledge of the parent group. Even these privileged few, who sometimes style themselves Agraketae (The Tribe of Women), rarely know the identities of Sisters outside their own sorority, although some societies do teach a magical means to recognize these Sisters.

Since the apotheosis of the Goddess, The Sisterhood has gained many new members amongst Her followers, either through new Lunar affiliates or as members of the less conservative existing societies. The Rock Sisters Society's membership was once almost exclusively Darseni, but in recent years the Grandmothers have been persuaded to admit outsiders as well, even as their forbears were persuaded by Valare Addi to admit Sedenya to the Council of the Hundred. Now its membership includes an unusually large number of Lunar Way followers.

A surprisingly large number of prominent women within the Empire are members of The Sisterhood and secretly serve its ends. Lunar Sisters long to recruit their Goddess' most potent symbol of feminine power to the cause: Deneskerva, the Great Sister. Rumors of high-profile Lunar members past (Erana Halfmoon, Valare Addi)and present (Hwarin Dalthippa)are difficult to substantiate, but stubbornly persistent.
