A Visit and Working Description of the Lunagraph

Abis calls by the lodgings Reza of in Mirin's Cross one eve, and offer to show him the wagon.

"Good Wane, Master Vizier. I thank you for your kind interest in the Lunagraph, also known as the Rufelzagraph. I am afraid I am not a scholar, and concern myself more with the functional use of the apparatus, rather than the theory. If only Centurion-Illuminifier the Learned GurakOlu were here, for he would be able to explain in full detail the mythic fundaments of the device! Sadly, my colleague met with an... unfortunate accident... on his journey here, and we are bereft of his illuminated wisdom.

"Suffice it to say, in summation the Lunagraph is a device that seeks to redirect and intensify Her blessed radiance, as emanates from Rufelza. This is for the avowed purpose of communication, though some scholars have suggested other uses -- but I am not wholly cognisant of the current research. More than that, I would struggle to tell you. But look, here is a schematic, which might be able to display more..."

"Your honour will note that, on one level at least, a series of parabolic, refined silver mirrors -- unsurprisingly seven in total, but only two are shown in this schematic -- act to reflect the radiance of the Red Moon upon a single convex mirror, which in turn reflects the moonlight into what we call "The Chamber" -- please, I shall explain more of this later. Such light enters through a sequence of ground moonglass -- vitrified moonrock -- lenses, which serve to magnify the magical power.

"Now that light is then defracted and transmuted by The Chamber to provide an intensified point source, like so. As this point source lies at the focal point of the large, main parabolic mirror -- also of refined silver, you'll note -- said mirror reflects the intensified light in a near parallel beam, away from the Lunagraph. This beam can be switch on and off by means of closing a series of diaphragms which cover The Chamber's lenses. All mirrors can be adjusted, according to the direction of the Red Moon, the intended recipient of the message, and so on.

"The Chamber is the heart of the Lunagraph, and the most delicate and important element -- there, you will see the Chaos rune. To be candid, I know little of what it actually is, or what is in there; and do not care to find out..." at this Abis catches himself slightly, and gives the slightest hint of a sad frown. "Without it," he continues, "Even the most blessed, powerful and blemishless of mirrors and lenses could not reflect Her radiance to such an extent. We know, as we've tried. The Chamber... solved... all the problems, and was designed by a scholar named Thoros, whom some men called 'Half-Sane', of the Department of Applied Theurgy. And that, sir, is about as much as I know."

And then he pauses. "Or am allowed to divulge."
